The acquisition is the first for Generation Esports since its $19 million (~£15.22m) funding round in May, when the platform also acquired Wizard Labs Inc. Over the past 12 months, Generation Esports has raised nearly $30 million (~£24.04m) in funding as it continues to expand its portfolio.

The company also announced that MGL will use the Generation Esports platform to host a new competition called Season Zero. The five-week tournament, open to active duty, National Guard, veterans and reserves will see participants compete in VALORANT, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Call of Duty.

Daniel Ball, Co-founder of Military Gaming League, spoke on the acquisition: “It has always been our goal to do what is best for our members. We want to spotlight the great work that all of the Armed Forces members are doing and give them every opportunity to receive the recognition they deserve while finding comradery amongst each other.

“Generation Esports will enable us to elevate MGL to a whole new level, which we’re thrilled to be a part of.”

This acquisition continues our position of providing positive gaming experiences across all spectrums like Scholastics, Amateur and now the Armed Forces.”

We’re honoured to be working with the MGL founders in growing this world-class community that is dedicated to our men & women in uniform.”

Esports Insider says: Generation Esports is slowly expanding its operations across all levels of North American esports. By buying MGL, the platform can continue leveraging its expertise to run the league as it continues to support military personnel through esports.
